ARTIST STATEMENT

I have always been called to art. I don't even remember when I started drawing. I remember when I decided to get serious about art in middle school. It was a tough climb, with many setbacks, I almost gave up so many times, and even now when I'm going through art block I still sometimes say I will quit. Truth be told, I could never quit art, art is my happy place. I paint when I'm sad, I use markers when I'm inspired, and I use colored pencil when I'm looking for a challenge. I have so many works that are all so meaningful to me and I wouldn't give up all the time and effort I've put into this for anything.

As I've gotten older, I've gotten better at art. Some things were harder than others. I had a hard time finding the style that I liked the most. I enjoyed drawing hands, and doing figure studies. And I picked up watercolor fast, and easy. My favorite mediums are watercolor, and alcohol marker. I enjoy doing portraits the most, as that's what I've spent the most time doing, but I like drawing anything. I like to branch out into new mediums, but art is expensive and I am a broke highschool student. Highschool has given me opportunity to learn about new mediums without having to commit my own money into them, and I am very grateful for it.

AP has showed me how to be organized, and cohesive within my work. I thought it would be hard to stick to one theme for an entire year, but I keep coming up with new, and exciting ideas. I have enjoyed everything I have worked on this year, and I wish I had taken it my junior year as well so I could have learned back then.
